EVERYTHING

YOU NEED TO KNOW

OUR

COmpetition

Based on the prompts that will be announced on July 5, participants will brainstorm an issue and come up with a business, product, or social enterprise that could contribute to solving that problem in some way.

Participants are urged to be as specific as possible, such as pinpointing a problem in a particular location and/or providing an outline of how, when, and what conditions must be fulfilled for the business to scale. Participants are also encouraged to be realistic with initial capital investment; a high initial investment should be proportionate to the standard of the industry and provide sufficient income for operations. The business should not take more than 1 year to launch.

THEME

"LIVING SUSTAINABLY"

The theme of Full Circle Competition is "Living Sustainably," challenging preconceived notions of irresponsible consumption and growth obsessive business conducts. Using this theme, we aim to inspire participants to question the ways in which we live and engage with the world. One such way to do this is to challenge ourselves to look deeper into the origins of our products of consumption, how these materials are used, and what happens to them after. How can we introduce creative solutions or new ways of conducting business in order to change these toxic traditions?

To ensure a level playing field that participants won’t come in with fully fleshed out ideas and businesses, we will be announcing prompts at the start of the competition on July 5, 2021.

What is A

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

For this competition, participants may pitch either a business or social enterprise. Social enterprises and businesses share many similarities. First, they must be financially independent, that is, the product or service that is offered by the business and social enterprise must create enough revenue to cover all expenses. Both may charge consumers for their products and services and may generate profit. A social enterprise, however, must first-and-foremost looks to create positive changes in the world. Their primary key performance indicators are not profit but a specific social goal -- i.e. to improve education or to reduce plastic waste used by corporations. A social enterprise must also re-invest at least 75% of its profits back into the organization or donate it to a non-profit organization.
