Prompts

To promote sustainability in Thailand, we need more initiatives and creative solutions to solve current social and environmental problems. For this competition, you are assigned to come up with a business or social enterprise that tackles issues in one of these themes.

1. sustainable          energy

Sustainable energy refers to energy derived from resources that can maintain present operation without putting energy at risk of getting depleted  and harming the environment of future generations. Sustainable energy includes renewable energy which comes from natural sources that could be constantly replenished, such as sunlight, wind, hydropower, and geothermal heat. In addition, achieving sustainable energy could also come from collecting, using, and distributing energy efficiently to minimize the environmental effects.

Driven by continued population and economic growth, Thailand faces a dramatic rise in demand for energy. This creates a crucial challenge for Thailand as it heavily relies on importing energy supply, which is mostly fossil fuels. It’s time that we have to work towards conserving and sustaining energy before the existing issues exacerbate and get out of control.

2. health care  and wellness

To achieve a sustainable society, people at all ages should have healthy lives and good well-being. However, there are still several issues and barriers that prevent all people from accessing efficient healthcare and maintaining good well-being. One of the most prevalent issues is healthcare disparities, which refer to differences in access to healthcare facilities and services that are defined by socioeconomic factors such as income, ethnicity, age, and gender.

In Thailand, health disparities are one of the major national concerns. Thai people in rural areas have limited access to healthcare compared to those in urban areas. There are significantly less hospitals and specialized doctors in the rural areas. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation has substantially worsened. Thus, we need initiatives to improve the health and well-being of Thai people and our future generations.

3. RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTIOn and production

Responsible consumption and production are an action that supports sustainable ways to reduce wastes.

According to the Pollution Control Department, Thailand generates more than two million tonnes of plastic waste a year. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to recycling waste. Recycling maintains the sustainability of the supply chain and focuses on reusing the products without material quality loss. As such, the supply chain must incorporate this mentality from designing a product that is recyclable to ensuring end-use consumers know how to separate waste and where to discard recyclable materials.

Thailand creates approximately twenty-seven million tonnes of food waste a year, which is 40 percent more than the food waste in the US. Thailand’s food waste is drastically high when compared to the size of the US population. Therefore, it is time for Thais to act and make a change.  If enough people become more conscious of our consumption and production behavior, we save Thailand and other countries from being much more polluted than they already are.

4.Education

Education is one of the most important ways to gain knowledge and develop skills that are needed in life. However, in Thailand, approximately 15 percent of people aged 15-24 years old are not enrolled in education.

Although the majority of young adults are enrolled in some kind of education, some face difficulties in school like struggle to follow the pace of learning along with other classmates or discouragement from others. Safety and equality in school are not always the case.

The school must be a safe and supportive place for learners and everyone deserves to have equal access to quality education, regardless of their background and nationality. What can be done to prevent these from happening?

What other information and education that students or people of all ages can continue to study more based on what they have taught?
